Summer 2010 |
It's finally getting to the best time of year to live in Chicago. Summer means grilling for dinner, weekend street festivals, and plenty of time at the park. Since most of us city dwellers don't have yards, the whole city turns into one big backyard once the weather warms up. After another long winter, I am so eager for summer to fully arrive! To help make it through the last weeks of transitional spring weather, I figured I'd make a list of a few summer priorities for this year. In no particular order, these are a few of my goals for making Summer 2013 one to remember...

Spend a weekend in Michigan
By the end of this month, we will have finished our Spring traveling... and that trip to Europe pretty much filled up our Summer travel budget as well. But we have a big, beautiful great lake right down the street from us, and if we travel around it to the opposite side, we have the lovely beaches and wineries of Michigan. We've lived here for about six years now, and I've still never made it to Michigan. So this is the summer! I hope to spend a long weekend near one of the beaches in Michigan, eating good food, soaking up the sun, and taking a break from the city.

See a Movie in the Park
I've mentioned this idea to Joe at least a couple times every summer, but I've never found the time to make it happen. This is the year! I want to see a fun classic one, like Wayne's World or The Breakfast Club. They show the movies at parks across the city, on all nights of the week, so there is no excuse. We'll pack a picnic, bring a bottle of wine, and make a night of it. Sounds fun, right?
Last year I went to one Cubs game right at the beginning of the season, and that was it. We're in a much better place financially this year, and I'd like to try to get to at least one or two warm weather games at Wrigley. With beer, and hot dogs with florescent green relish-- it's just such a classic part of summer in Chicago! Joe and I both really love watching baseball in person, so I'm going to make sure this goal is accomplished.
That's it for now. Plenty of fun events will be happening this summer, but I really want to get these goals crossed off my list! Add in some festivals, a BIG birthday for me, and a couple fun races... I can tell it's going to be a good summer. Tomorrow's high is 80 degrees, and I'm going to ride my bike to work! It's sooooo close to real summer. Yeah!
these all sound perfect - i can relate to all of them, too, from living in nyc. we also have movies screened in parks (and i always say i'm going to go), i love baseball in the summer, and i used to spend many weekends out of the city when i visited brian. while the latter i'm happy to have a break from, i need to actually see a movie and go to baseball games, like you. sitting outside with something good to watch and a delicious beverage? sound like a perfect summer night.
